SURVEY: What Is The Level of Support
From Your Family During Your Job Search?
This is what my next careers book is about: how does your family support -- or not support (ouch) -- your job search, especially if you're between jobs?
Having the support of one's family and closest friends is key to a job search, especially a long search.
By "support", aside from financial, I mean the positive comments or actions that show they're on your side. Emotional support.
In the first round of my research talking directly with candidates and surveying them, sometimes their comments are sad, relating stories of absent family members, or resentment.
Yet many talk of how their spouse offers ideas, how the kids don't ask for that big Christmas gift, how their father-in-law readily shares his network contacts, how a best friend says "just talk, I'm happy to listen".
Each search is unique and it's my goal to help families understand what you're going through if you're in job search. It's a process that keeps changing and always seems to have new challenges.
There are articles out there about families and job search but in this new book, my writing about it will include quotes from YOU, the person in job search who might be between the trapezes right now. Your comments will help others in job search -- and their families.
Helping families helps their candidates.
Although I have several quotes already, I could use more. Please use this link to go to a very quick, 5-question survey and give your thoughts. Hurry: the deadline to reply is this Thursday, the 12th, at 11pm!
Thank you!!!!
